Don’t tell me what to do.
“It doesn’t make sense to hire smart people and then tell them what to do. We hire smart people so they can tell us what to do.”
— Steve Jobs (1995–2011)
Amen.
I reckon maybe 20% of big employers get this. The rest insist on second-guessing your every move — Ultimately prolonging the problem you were hired to solve.
Lately, I’ve had the privilege of working with some sensational people. The kind that aren’t afraid to say what they think, and don’t mind if I disagree. The kind that ultimately defer to my judgement because that’s why they hired me — I know what I’m doing. Clients like that are gold, and should be treated that way.
